Dick Brave & The Backbeats

'Dick this!'

Dick Brave & The Backbeats indeed are 'Sasha' - Germany's star entertainer ... some kind of German Robbie Williams (and this is meant as a compliment - as whatever you might think of Robbie, he's one of the most entertaining musicians around) - and his band. Sasha usually famous for his decent pop tunes and ballads now does an exceptional change of style (indicated by using a pseudonym) ... he does a record of 50s-style rockabilly music (kind of Straycats). Very nice renditions of Little Richard's "Slippin 'n' Slidin'" oder Carole Kings "Take Good Care (Of My Baby)" are the obvious selections, but the true highlights are his interpretations of contemporary music like the opener Pink's "Get The Party Started", Aerosmith's "Walk This Way", Avril Lavigne's "Complicated" or "Give It Away" from Red Hot Chili Peppers, George Michael's 'Freedom' and - personal favourite - Michael Jackson's "Black Or White". Almost one hour of pure fun! Accompanied by a terrific band this also is a great live event - which leads to the second reason why I like this record - Dick Brave's guitar player Adriano BaTolba (in real life Andre Tolba) is an old childhood mate - we went to kindergarden and elementary school together and joined the same sports club. He's a great guy and such a gifted musician - so: DICK THIS!
