I arrived at the venue about 12am - about 30 people already there, a lot of familiar faces (as SusanS & Simone from BNet). I had a bad night, having a knee injury doing sports the night before - so I had less sleep and to wake up early to visit the doctor - to get the shattering news that the injury is even worse than I expected with a operation to be done as soon as possible - I feared that I would not be able to reach Rotterdam, but thanks to the doctor & some pills and bandages he gave me I was lucky ... Time in the line was flying as so many great people (to mention just a few - first of all Piper from Germany and Maarten and his friends from the Netherlands) were waiting with us. I missed the soundcheck and was completely sad when Piper told me that they even rehearsed 'Win' - a song I would have loved to hear during the concert. But that should be the last 'Lowlight'. 18.30 the doors opened, about 19.50 the Dandy Warhols started to play - quite an uninspired set, but they have not been the ones we all were waiting for. 21.05 a David & his band comic strip was screened to the tunes of 'Queen of tarts', then David and the Band joined the stage and started with 'New Killer Star'. My place was terrific - 2nd line exactly at center stage ... often only one metre away from the man himself. A great setlist, to mention quite a few - Jean Genie, Hallo Spaceboy, Under pressure (a magic performance of Gail Ann Dorsey on vocals), Heroes, Suffragette City and Ziggy Stardust really rocked the house. The motel (one of my favourites of my favourite album 'Outside'), the terrifif new acoustic version of 'Loving the alien' and the wonderfull sing-a-long version of 'Slip away' have been the most moving moments of the evening plus an outstanding vocal and piano only 'Bring me the disco king' ... what does not mean that the songs I didn't mention haven't been great ... even my least favourite from 'Reality' - 'Try some buy some' worked very well. After some mercandising shopping some drinks with fellow BNetters in a Bar - the day ended after a 2½ hour car drive at 5.30am. |
