ONLY PLEASURE AND PAIN |
| My Cock Robin Story ... | |
|
Just around the corner (Peter Kingsbery, 1987) |
... starts in 1987. I was obsessed with playing tennis, so I spent most of my time on court. Just before summer holidays we had a tournament in my local club with our partner club in Sancerre/France. What I remember most is that we had a lot of fun and I made some very good friends ... and that I once came home, switched on the telly and they played this song "Just around the corner" - a Top 20 hit in Germany that time. I loved this song immediatly and today - almost 15 years later - it is still my favourite song. It reminds me of the great time, of the people from Sancerre, how sad I was when they left my hometown. A few weeks later I went to Greece with my parents ... and the cassette I had with me and listened to all the time at the beach not only included "Just around the corner" but also "The promise you made" which I had discovered as another Cock Robin Song. Time flies, a year later we went to Sancerre, meeting those friends again ... not knowing that it was the last time I would see them ... at that age Sancerre was "Worlds apart", when our clubs decided not to continue these tournaments, we all lost contact. With one very good (the best) friend from France - Domitienne - I kept contact, writing letters more or less frequently - and of course there was one (but not the only) thing we had in common: We both loved the music of Cock Robin. Even when our contact faded away years later (we lost contact in the mid-90s), I still remember these great times when listenig to these records, trying to get any song from them I could buy. What a great surprise when I found out that Peter - after the split - kept on going solo, so I put all efforts in getting all his recordings. With Internet there was a new chance to get Information about Peter and other Cock Robin Fans ... and - Deja-Vu - again there is the connection to France - with Peter now living there (and singing in French) and some of the very best sites from a French guy: From the great site of Didier (and the very nice contact) I got more information than I ever dreamed about (even finding on his and Nothing less than a miracle's message board notices from Anna and Peter); there are sites that offer (as far as I know with legitimation from Peter's management) some great live MP3s that give us a glimpse how great Peter (and Anna) have been live. By the way is the Internet a great recource to get records (both CDs and Vinyl), pictures and the "Grand Rex"-Video. The places where I found this stuff (and made good experiences) are:
So, all the best for all Cock Robin/Peter Kingsbery fans outthere ... if Domi should ever find the way in here ... still remember you very well. I'm happy, hope your happy, too ... feel free to mail me! |

Things aren't quite easy as they seem inside my domain You can't know know about everything,
only pleasure and pain
You wonder why I come here with head to my hands Where else can I be cured and the king of your mansion A torn in your side, like a child to protect That claims he's free Just around the corner half a mile to heaven Strong enough to hold you, starved for some affection Darling come quickly, come ease my mind For my prayers have not been answered in a long time I've already made my bed like it or not As long as there are no regrets I'll be here when the ride stops These comforts to me and these crosses to bear With wich we live Just around the corner half a mile to heaven Strong enough to hold you, starved for some affection Baby, I can't drag you into this mess I'm the torn in your side and the child to protect And I'm just around the corner half a mile to heaven Strong enough to hold you, starved for some affection Darling come quickly, come ease my worried mind For my prayers have not been answered in a long time |
